Since having had COVID over Christmas, I’ve found myself struggling with high levels of Stress and Anxiety that I’ve never before experienced.
I’m lacking motivation and feeling exhausted when completing even small tasks that I previously wouldn’t have thought twice about.
I speak a lot about techniques to manage stress and advise clients and friends to be kinder to themselves, but it can sometimes be difficult to take your own advice!
I’m engaging with a Psychotherapist on a weekly basis, which has greatly improved things, but what are the other techniques I’m employing?
Good Sleep is definitely one of my most important tools – The Importance of Sleep gives some tips on how to improve things if you’re suffering from disruption.
Regular Movement, no matter how gentle, helps with mood improvement. I try to build a small walk in to my morning, lunchtime and afternoon to keep some routine and mimic a work commute/lunch food run.
Good Company – I surround myself with people who bring me joy and with whom I can engage on a deeper level. Moving away from people who drain your energy can seem daunting, but it is necessary to protect yourself and keep yourself well.
An Interest – I love to read. I can never tell you what I’m reading or by whom it was written, I just love to lose myself in a book! Movies, Music, Podcasts about History – find something to lose yourself in and do it more regularly. What was that one thing you did before you grew up/had kids/started working? Pick it back up!
Education – I’m a lifelong learner and love learning new skills. I’m studying for my Nutritionist Coaching Qualification and am always on the lookout for what’s next. What is that one course that you wish you’d done? It’s not too late – there are plenty of online resources and opportunities to learn and grow. Just do it 🙂
