Health as a Priority

So I’ve been thinking a lot about how to help my clients who are struggling with consistency and with staying on track with their Health and Wellness and I’ve discovered that I’m also struggling. There’s a huge amount of change happening in my own life right now, all of it good but some of it tough to go through.

As a result, I’m doing some things that I don’t love and it’s absolutely draining my motivation and my generally positive outlook. Whilst I know the strategies to employ to take me back on track, I am finding it difficult to stick to them with any sense of consistency. I’m starting some mornings really well, with exercise, mindfulness and a good breakfast (always porridge!) and then it can deteriorate into mindless eating and allowing negative thoughts to remain and impact on my mood and energy.

Why is it always our Health and Wellness that we stop focusing on when times are tough? Money is an issue, mood is low, we’re struggling with change – instead of leaning into our health and eating well, exercising and practicing mindfulness, we cancel our gym membership/ personal training, scroll Netflix and eat chocolate and crisps!

Whilst there it is absolutely necessary to take time to acknowledge your circumstances and your feelings around them, engaging in a long period of lack of focus on your wellness can start a cycle of negativity. I fondly refer to this cycle with my clients as ‘The Cycle of S***’! I feel rubbish, I eat mindlessly, I sit still, I feel rubbish, I eat more mindlessly and I stay still……

So let’s make a concerted effort to focus on ourselves right now, together. Make that call to the therapist you’ve been threatening to make, do a big grocery shop of fresh fruit and veggies, call someone to go for a walk or do a short workout with you. Do it today. And tomorrow, do it again. Take one day at a time, because in six months time you can either be in the same place as you are right now or you could have made six months of small changes that add up to some amazing progress.

It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it, I promise. You’ve got this x

I needed to hear this today Fiona. I have lost 20lbs so far and want to lose 10 more to reach my first goal. I was doing so well, and then our vacations began finding it harder to choose healthy options. Each time I say I will get back on track once I get back home, but I haven’t. Worried I will lose what I have accomplished thus far. I am going through a lot personally right now and it is much easier to grab whatever is in site and binge tv, as you said, than make the extra effort. I know I can do it again, but feel like I have lost my will. Relieved to hear you go through times like this too – praying we both snap out of it!

Aw love, it’s so tough. You’re doing amazing, 20lbs is no mean feat and your exercise form is on point – remember! Today, take a walk, listen to a podcast or nature and make a call to that gym or trainer you’ve wanted to make for ages. Happy to support you with online training if you’d like, just message me. Lots of love x
